Albrecht Wellmer 1933 – 2018
Albrecht Wellmer was a German philosopher and one of the leading representatives of the third generation of the Frankfurt School. A pupil of Adorno and a long-time colleague of Habermas, he held chairs at Frankfurt and at the Free University of Berlin. His Critical Theory of Society, The Persistence of Modernity, Endgames, and Aesthetic Reflection on the Logic of Modernity developed an influential defense of modernity as an unfinished project, an account of the communicative dimension of practical reason, and a sustained reflection on the legitimate role of aesthetic experience in critical thought.
