Antonio Rosmini 1797 – 1855

Antonio Rosmini-Serbati was an Italian Catholic priest, philosopher, and the founder of the Institute of Charity. His many works, including the New Essay on the Origin of Ideas, Anthropology in Service of Moral Science, Philosophy of Politics, and the late Theosophy, developed an original metaphysics of being centered on the universal idea of being as the first object of every act of the human intellect, and a personalist political philosophy in which the dignity of the person is the foundation of right. After ecclesiastical condemnations during his lifetime that were later reversed, he was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2007.
