Avraham ibn Daud c. 1110 – c. 1180

Avraham ibn Daud (c. 1110 – c. 1180) was an Andalusian-Jewish philosopher of the Medieval era, associated with Jewish Philosophy and Medieval Philosophy.

Avraham ibn Daud was a Spanish Jewish philosopher, physician, astronomer, and historian of the twelfth century, often counted as the first systematic Jewish Aristotelian. After fleeing the Almohad invasion of his native Cordoba, he settled in Toledo, where he composed his Hebrew Sefer ha-Qabbalah, a foundational chronicle of the rabbinic tradition, and his Arabic Al-aqida al-rafi'a, The Exalted Faith, the first sustained attempt to harmonize Jewish theology with the Aristotelian philosophy then being recovered in the Arabic-speaking world. His work prepared the ground for Maimonides's greater synthesis a generation later.
