Bernard Bosanquet 1848 – 1923

Bernard Bosanquet was a British philosopher and one of the central figures of British absolute idealism, alongside F. H. Bradley. He produced major works in logic, aesthetics, social philosophy, and political theory, including the Logic, the History of Aesthetic, and the Philosophical Theory of the State. His political thought defended a positive conception of freedom and a communitarian view of the state as the moral organism of the citizens, drawing on T. H. Green and on Hegelian sources. He was active in the Charity Organisation Society and in adult education.
