Ferdinand Lassalle 1825 – 1864

Ferdinand Lassalle (1825 – 1864) was a German philosopher of the Modern era, associated with Political Philosophy and Marxism.

Ferdinand Lassalle was a German jurist, philosopher, and political organizer and the founder of the General German Workers' Association in 1863, the first political party of the German workers and the direct ancestor of the Social Democratic Party of Germany. After early Hegelian studies and a notorious decade of litigation on behalf of the Countess Hatzfeldt, he produced his System of Acquired Rights and a long series of brilliant agitational addresses on the labor question and the role of the state. He was killed in a duel in Geneva at the age of thirty-nine. His state-socialist program shaped German social democracy for a generation.
