Galen Strawson b. 1952

Galen Strawson (born 1952) is a British philosopher of the Contemporary era, associated with Analytic Philosophy.

Galen Strawson is a British philosopher, professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and the son of P. F. Strawson, whose work has reshaped contemporary debate on free will, personal identity, and the philosophy of mind. Mental Reality and Freedom and Belief defended an austere basic argument against the possibility of ultimate moral responsibility, while his much-discussed essay Realistic Monism: Why Physicalism Entails Panpsychism argued that genuine physicalism, properly understood, requires the attribution of experience to the basic constituents of matter. His memoir-essay Against Narrativity has been an influential dissent from the now-orthodox view that selfhood requires a continuous narrative.
