Giorgio Colli 1917 – 1979
Giorgio Colli (1917 – 1979) was an Italian philosopher of the Contemporary era, associated with Continental Philosophy.
Giorgio Colli was an Italian philosopher and classicist, professor at the University of Pisa, and the co-editor with Mazzino Montinari of the critical edition of Nietzsche's complete works. His major book, The Birth of Philosophy, reread the early Greek philosophers, against the standard scholarly account, as continuators of an older Apollonian-Dionysian wisdom tradition that begins not in the speculative cosmologies of Miletus but in the agonistic riddle-contests of the seers and the mysteries. After Nietzsche, his philosophical diary, has continued to shape the post-1968 Italian reception of Nietzsche and of pre-Socratic thought.
