Hassan Hanafi Quotes

Hassan Hanafi was an Egyptian philosopher and Islamic intellectual of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, professor of philosophy at Cairo University and one of the leading figures of the late twentieth-century Arab philosophical revival. His Heritage and Renewal program, set out in his many books, sought to recover the heritage of classical Arab and Islamic thought in such a way that it could serve the present needs of the Arab peoples for liberation from colonial and authoritarian domination, while his Occidentalism turned the lens of Orientalist scholarship back on the West to study Western thought as a historically situated cultural phenomenon.
