John Philoponus was a Greek Alexandrian Christian philosopher, theologian, and Aristotelian commentator of late antiquity. A pupil of the Neoplatonist Ammonius Hermiae, he produced commentaries on much of Aristotle that broke decisively with pagan Aristotelian orthodoxy on key points.
