Julian of Norwich Quotes on Justice
Julian of Norwich's Revelations of Divine Love say comparatively little about justice in the legal or social sense, and the quotes gathered here show how thoroughly her theology subordinates judgement to mercy and love. For Julian everything that happens is encompassed by a God who is Allmighty Wisdom and All-Love, and who does and works all that is done, a divine governance she trusts as wholly good even where it exceeds understanding. Where a strict reckoning might be expected, Julian sees instead the work of mercy and grace, by which souls are made all fair and clean. She describes the order of salvation as open and clear and fair and light. Drawn from her Revelations, these passages present a vision in which God's dealings with the world are measured not by retribution but by love, mercy, and an all-embracing goodness.
