Luis Villoro (1922 – 2014) was a Mexican philosopher of the Contemporary era, associated with Postcolonial Philosophy and Analytic Philosophy.
Luis Villoro Toranzo was a Mexican philosopher of Spanish origin and one of the leading voices of twentieth-century Mexican thought. After studies in Mexico and Paris under Gaston Bachelard, he held a long professorship at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and at the Autonomous Metropolitan University. His Belief, Knowledge, Reasons, El Poder y el Valor, and later writings on indigenous rights combined analytic precision with a sustained engagement with the Mexican indigenous question. He served as Mexican ambassador to UNESCO and supported the Zapatista movement in Chiapas in his last decades.
