Madhva Quotes on God
Madhva (1238–1317) is the founder of the Dvaita (dualist) Vedanta tradition, developed against the non-dualist Advaita of Shankara and the qualified-non-dualist Visistadvaita of Ramanuja. The principal philosophical thesis is the eternal real distinction between God (Brahman, identified with Vishnu), the individual souls, and the material world: each of the three categories has its own reality, the souls are real and distinct from God for all eternity, and salvation consists not in the recognition of an underlying identity but in the loving devotional relation between the soul and the divine reality on which it eternally depends. The framework supplied the philosophical foundation of the Madhva tradition that has continued in unbroken devotional and scholarly transmission down to the present in coastal Karnataka and the broader Vaishnava communities of southern India.
