Michel Serres 1930 – 2019

Michel Serres (1930 – 2019) was a French philosopher of the Contemporary era, associated with Continental Philosophy.

Michel Serres was a French philosopher of communication and science, a member of the Academie francaise, and one of the most idiosyncratic stylists of late-twentieth-century French thought. His five-volume Hermes series, The Parasite, and Genesis pursued a philosophy of relations, mediations, and noise, finding in the figure of the parasite the founding interruption of every exchange. In later works such as Thumbelina and Hominescence he traced the consequences of the digital revolution for memory, education, and the body, urging a generous and inventive response to historical change rather than a posture of complaint.
