Robert Brandom b. 1950

Robert Brandom (born 1950) is an American philosopher of the Contemporary era, associated with Analytic Philosophy and Pragmatism.

Robert Brandom is an American analytic philosopher, distinguished professor at the University of Pittsburgh, and one of the most influential contemporary defenders of inferentialist semantics and pragmatist analytic philosophy. Making It Explicit, his nearly thousand-page magnum opus, set out a comprehensive account of meaning, mind, and rationality grounded in the social practice of giving and asking for reasons, while Articulating Reasons offered a more accessible introduction to the same program. A Spirit of Trust, his Hegelian commentary on the Phenomenology of Spirit, has redrawn contemporary lines of communication between analytic and continental philosophy.
