Catherine Malabou b. 1959
Catherine Malabou (born 1959) is a French philosopher of the Contemporary era, associated with Continental Philosophy and Post-Structuralism.
Catherine Malabou is a French philosopher, a former student of Jacques Derrida, and the leading thinker of plasticity in contemporary philosophy. From The Future of Hegel onward she has argued that Hegel's dialectic is best understood through the concept of plasticity, the simultaneous capacity to give and to receive form and to resist deformation. What Should We Do With Our Brain? brought this category into contact with neuroscience and capitalism, while Ontology of the Accident and The New Wounded explored the cerebral lesion and trauma as figures of destructive plasticity, in which the self does not return from its injury as the same self but as a stranger.
