Giorgio Agamben b. 1942
Giorgio Agamben (born 1942) is an Italian philosopher of the Contemporary era, associated with Continental Philosophy, Post-Structuralism, and Political Philosophy.
Giorgio Agamben is an Italian philosopher whose Homo Sacer project, begun in 1995, has reshaped contemporary political philosophy through a radical genealogy of sovereignty, bare life, and the state of exception. Drawing on Aristotle, Carl Schmitt, Walter Benjamin, and Foucault, he argued that sovereign power constitutes itself by including, through exclusion, a form of life stripped of political existence. The State of Exception applied the same analysis to twentieth-century emergency politics, while his later The Kingdom and the Glory and Opus Dei extended the genealogy into theology and the categories of liturgy and economy.
